God on the Streets of Gotham [Book Review]

I love comics and the heroes (or villains, at times) that grace those pages. I love fantasy and seeing a whole new world brought into creation symbolically representing our everyday life. It allows you to look at yourself and the world around you in a slightly different way that helps you to understand the interactions that take place between yourself and everything else. Batman is no different as his story of fear, pain, failure, love, redemption, and so many more human characteristics takes us on a journey to discover our own paths in life. With the new Batman film, The Dark Knight Rises, coming out I felt this was the perfect opportunity to review God on the Streets of Gotham: What the Big Screen Batman Can Teach Us about God and Ourselves by Paul Asay.

Angry Birds Seasons Receive a Summer Update

Calling all Angry Birds fans!! The folks over at Rovio have announced an update to Angry Birds Seasons just in time for the Summer season. This is an epic update as well since it is gives a change in the physics of the game, similar to what is seen in Angry Birds Space. The update also includes 30 new levels and gives you a ton of fun playtime. This is definitely a must have update and if you haven’t gotten the game at all yet, you can pick up on Android here. Netflix Testing Separate Categories for Streaming Customers

It looks like the streaming giants are doing all sorts of updates to make the customers experience the best it can be. The latest news about Netflixseems to be a positive move for those who stream their service. It appears that a redesign of the Netflix site allows you to now select Movies or TV along with the standard Just for Kids and Instant Queue. There is also a possibility that these new categories will have sub-categories to allow for easier searches of different genres. This test is being done on only a few accounts at the moment and, if the results are favorable, Netflix will roll this out to all of its streaming customers. There is no timetable set for this to occur yet and looks like it will be based on the results of the testing as to the release date.

I can’t wait for this feature and I hope that it is made available across the device board. It would be so nice to look in one place for television series and one place for movies. It will make searching faster and more direct but will it take away from related products showing up? Example - My wife and I are watching the Firefly TV series and when you do a search for Firefly it shows you the episodes as well as the movie Serenity that followed. Will this feature still be available after the split? I certainly hope so since it helps to find corresponding media a customer may not have known existed.

Do you think Netflix splitting the Movies and TV categories is a good idea?

Amazon Instant Video is now adding MGM titles to the lineup

There is more exciting news from Amazon about their Instant Video service offered to Prime Members. Amazon signed a deal with MGM yesterday to bring in their lineup of movies and television shows through 2012. Amazon is stating that there will be an additional 18,000 movies and television episodes added by this deal and they are quickly moving up to match Netflix.

This is definitely making Amazon Instant Video a competitor for Netflix and I am glad to see these additions since I have started using Instant Video more. I still wish Instant Video offered subtitles but I am sure that will come. What will be the first MGM movie you watch on Instant Video and what device will you watch it through - Kindle Fire, Roku, or the Web?

Amazon Adding Watchlist to Instant Videos

Those of you who have Prime Membership with Amazon (and therefore Amazon Instant Video) are in for a nice treat. Amazon is adding a Watchlist to Instant Videos so that it is easy to to access your favorite movies or television shows anytime, anywhere. Watchlist allows you to add the content you like to watch so that you do not have to constantly go through the catalog and try to find your show and continue it. This is especially helpful for those who watch television series and constantly need access to the main directory of episodes. More information and images after the break.

This is a feature Netflix has had for as long as I have had service with them, two - three years now. The Instant Queue on Netflix made watching a series with multiple episodes so much easier or if you wanted a weekend marathon all you had to do was set up all the movies you wanted in the Instant Queue and a simple flick of the wrist you were watching 48 hours of non-stop entertainment. Amazon has finally stepped up to now include this feature and over the past two weeks I have actually watched more shows from Amazon than Netflix.

The Watchlist is available on all formats (Kindle Fire, Roku, Web, etc.) and if you add a title to the Watchlist on your Roku it will be available in the Watchlist on your Kindle Fire when you go out later. Thank you Amazon and happy watching everyone! Images after the break.

Well, here is some interesting news in the Smartphone and Tablet world - Google has purchased Quickoffice. For those who don’t know, Quickoffice is a document editing program that over 400 million Smartphone and Tablets owners use to create, edit, and read documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. This is an application that I even use and is very handy for getting some quick work done or information shared while on the go. Pricing has not been discussed at this time but as more and more of these companies are being purchased by the big boys (Apple, Google, Facebook, etc.), you can bet we will see more competition in purchasing these great app companies.
